Srinagar | WTNS | Agha Syed Amin Musvi | Jan 05:Jammu and Kashmir, a land of unrivalled natural beauty and cultural richness, has emerged as a beacon of global tourism in 2024. With over three million domestic and international visitors gracing its valleys and peaks, the region has firmly reasserted itself on the world tourism map. Behind this remarkable achievement lies a transformative strategy driven by innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity.

Tourism Boom Backed by Ambitious Initiatives

Officials attribute the unprecedented growth to a comprehensive plan aimed at reinventing J&K’s tourism landscape. This year, the administration embarked on an ambitious journey to develop 75 new tourist destinations, heritage sites, and Sufi shrines, alongside adventure treks that promise to enchant travelers in all seasons.

“From snow-laden peaks to cultural retreats, we are creating diverse experiences for every traveler,” a senior official from the Tourism Department told Wilayat Times. Ongoing projects encompass amusement parks, water sports, and eco-tourism hubs, signaling J&K’s commitment to becoming a holistic tourism destination.

Eco-Friendly Growth and Global Outreach

At the heart of this vision is sustainability. Eco-friendly infrastructure, from eco-parks to energy-efficient accommodations, is being developed to preserve the region’s fragile ecosystem. Simultaneously, a robust marketing campaign leveraging digital platforms has been launched, targeting international markets and enhancing J&K’s global tourism brand.

“By blending tradition with modernity, we are aligning J&K with global tourism trends,” the official remarked.

Public-Private Partnerships Driving Innovation

Key to this transformation is the active participation of private stakeholders through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). This model has accelerated the development of five-star hotels, wellness centers, and advanced tented accommodations in offbeat locations, ensuring world-class facilities for visitors.

Unveiling the Future: Adventure, Wellness, and Spiritual Tourism

Adventure tourism, from snow sports to trekking, has seen a significant boost. Caravan and helicopter tourism initiatives are also in the pipeline. Meanwhile, the region’s Sufi circuits and pilgrimage sites are being reimagined to connect prominent shrines with lesser-known treasures, offering spiritual seekers a unique journey through J&K’s religious heritage.

The Wellness Centre at Mantalai, completed under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme at a cost of ₹80 crore, is a prime example of this vision. With state-of-the-art amenities like yoga centers and helipads, it underscores the region’s potential as a global wellness retreat.

Milestones and Infrastructure Achievements in 2024

Major infrastructure projects have paved the way for seamless connectivity and enriched visitor experiences. The Hazratbal Shrine redevelopment, under the PRASAD Scheme at a cost of ₹40.46 crore, not only improved facilities for pilgrims but also created local employment opportunities.

Additionally, the Jammu Water Park and the Peerkho-Mubarak Mandi vertical lift project are set to redefine leisure and accessibility in the region.

2025: J&K’s Global Aspirations

As 2025 approaches, J&K is poised to emerge as a global tourism hub. Upcoming projects include international-standard trekking routes, high-end accommodations, and collaborations with private sectors for education and tourism research.

“By prioritizing sustainable development, infrastructure upgrades, and experiential tourism, J&K will offer unparalleled experiences to global travelers,” the official concluded.

The year 2024 has marked a turning point in Jammu and Kashmir’s journey toward becoming a global tourism powerhouse.
