Iranian top cleric & Advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Taskhiri passes away

Tehran | WTNS | August 18: Senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri aged 76 passed away in Tehran.

Advisor of the Supreme Leader on Muslim world affairs, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, has passed away in the Iranian capital following years of endeavor for Islamic unity.

Top cleric also served as the president of the Supreme Council at World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought following years of directing the major Islamic unity body in Iran

Born in Iraq’s holy city of Najaf, Ayatollah Taskhiri studied his primary and high school years in Iraq. He was student to prominent Islamic scholars in seminary and also studied Arab Literature in Najaf Fiq’h University.

Ayatollah Takshiri was among activists against Iraqi former dictator Ba’ath regime.

The late scholar also studied in Iran’s Qom Seminary meanwhile teaching seminary and literature courses in some universities across the country.

Following the victory of Islamic Revolution he allocated his full time for cultural and Islamic advancement activities both in Iran and abroad.

Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Imam Syed Ali Khamenei has issued a condolence message  over the sad demise of prominent cleric and former secretary general of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri.

The Leader called the late scholar as “expressive presentment of Islam and Shia” expressing regret over passing of the late scholar on Tuesday.

Imam Khamenei in part of his message wrote,” The record of the determined man in providing different contributions at the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought is truly radiant.”

The leader also haile late Ayatollah Taskhiri for his determination and high motivations despite physical infirmity during the past years which highlighted his effectual presence in different occasions

“His responsibilities and contributions in Iran has opened another precious chapter in endeavors of the learned and committed scholar” read another part of the message by Ayatollah Khamenei.

Meanwhile Secretary general of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Hujat-ul-Islam Wa Hamid Shahriari in his message hailed the late scholar as “heralder of Islamic unity” and the companion of late Imam Khomeini(RA) and Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei.

He offered condolences and sympathy with the deceased family and all termed his death as a great loss to Muslim Ummah.

In his condolence message Former Deputy Chairman of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought for cultural affairs, Hojatul Islam Wal Muslimeen Ali Asghar Owhadi expressed sorrow and grief over the sad demise of the Ayatollah Taskhiri and termed his death as great loss to the Muslim Ummah and the Iran, saying his support and contribution to revolution as well as forum always be remembered.

He further said that “I have very close relations with Ayatollah Taskhiri and he was a great supporter of unity among Muslims sects across globe.

Late Ayatollah Taskhiri served in different political and religious positions among the most important are: member of Assembly of Experts since 1998, advisor of the Supreme Leader in Muslim world affairs, international deputy of the Supreme Leader bureau since 1990, president of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization since its foundation in 1994-2001, secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.He has taught in Tehran’s Imam Sadiq University, Tarbiat Modarres University and was also a member of the Fiq’h committee of Islamic Development Bank.
