Cairo | WTNS | Oct 10:U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of his proposed Gaza peace plan, calling it “a great day for the Arab and Islamic world, Israel, and the United States.”

According to Trump, the agreement provides for the imminent release of all Israeli captives and the withdrawal of Israeli forces to a mutually agreed line—marking “the first steps toward a strong and lasting peace.” He thanked mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, emphasizing that “all parties will be treated fairly.”

In a statement, Hamas confirmed that the deal includes a ceasefire in Gaza, full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, and a comprehensive prisoner exchange. The movement expressed deep appreciation for the mediators’ efforts and urged the United States and guarantor nations to ensure Israel implements the agreement without delay.

Israeli Channel 12 reported that the formal signing ceremony will take place Thursday, with the first exchange of detainees expected over the weekend. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was seen briefing Trump during a White House roundtable, while CNN reported that “an agreement on Gaza was very close.” AFP confirmed that the White House was drafting Trump’s speech announcing the deal.

Trump told reporters he might travel to the Middle East before the hostages’ release, possibly stopping in Egypt. The White House later confirmed that the president will undergo a routine medical checkup on Friday and could visit the region afterward.
