Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organization condemns proposed ‘Israel model’ for Kashmir

Kuala Lumpur: The world must condemn the statement made by India’s consul general in New York for his country to adopt an “Israeli model” in Indian administered Kashmir.

The call by Sandeep Chakraborty was nothing less than an illegal move with the intention to expropriate Kashmir, said

Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organization (Mapim) president Azmi Abdul Hamid.

In a statement here, he said that the diplomat offensive and extremist view would not help efforts to resolve the conflict in Kashmir but rather will exacerbate the tension further.

Chakravorty addressed a group of Kashmiri Hindus – known as Pandits – at a private event in the US city last week.

He was quoted as saying: “I believe the security situation will improve, it will allow the refugees to go back, and in your lifetime, you will be able to go back… and you will be able to find security, because we already have a model in the world.”

He continued: “I don’t know why we don’t follow it. It has happened in the Middle East. If the Israeli people can do it, we can also do it.”

The current Indian leadership is “determined” to do so, Chakravorty again said while adding that the Hindu culture is the Kashmir culture.

Azmi called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the international community to take specific action to address the Kashmir issue.

“The OIC should pay serious attention to the statement as another Muslim territory will again be erased out of the map by the Indian fascist goverment.

“We call the international community to respond to the grave situation in Kashmir and to the provocative stance of the Indian official that have serious consequences on the regional stability.”

The action taken by the Indian government to deny the right to self determination to the Kashmiris is a violation of the United Nation Security Council Resolution 47 after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A by Parliament.

Mapim, he said believed the move’s main purpose was to implement a demographic change in Kashmir similar to what was executed by Israel on the Palestinians.

Azmi described the policy as akin to the apartheid regime of South Africa by India that will systemically oppressed the Kashmiris as a second class citizens.

“We register our strong objection to this statement of a settler colonial policy of Israel aimed to be repeated in Kashmir.” he said.
