A grim cloud of sorrow has descended upon Kashmir as an unprovoked attack on a group of tourists in the Pahalgam area left several dead and many injured. The assailants, reportedly unidentified at the time of filing this report, opened fire, causing a scene of chaos and heartbreak in one of Kashmir’s most beloved tourist destinations.

The attack sparked widespread outrage and deep mourning across the valley. Every corner of Kashmir echoed with condemnation, with locals expressing grief and shame over the assault. In a heart-wrenching act of bravery, a young pony owner, Syed Adil Hussain Shah, sacrificed his life while attempting to protect and rescue tourists caught in the deadly assault. His heroism has been hailed as a symbol of the true Kashmiri spirit, emphasizing that despite the violence, humanity and hospitality remain at the core of Kashmiri identity.

Meanwhile, the incident received vehement condemnation from all sections of society. Across the valley, protests and mourning gatherings were held, with Kashmiris expressing their solidarity with the victims and their families. The loss has pierced the soul of Kashmir, transforming every Kashmiri into a mourner.

Adding to the tragedy, reports have emerged that certain media agencies, instead of promoting peace and understanding, irresponsibly fueled communal hatred through their coverage. Their narratives have allegedly contributed to incidents of violence against Kashmiri students and businessmen outside the valley, where many faced beatings and harassment.

This development has raised serious concerns about the role of the media in times of communal tension and the urgent need for responsible journalism.

Wilayat Times prays for peace to return to the valley and for the bonds of humanity to overcome the forces of hatred and violence.
