Srinagar | WTNS | May 05:In a gesture symbolising intergenerational respect and transnational religious ties, young Kashmiri Islamic scholar and preacher Moulana Waseem Reza Qomi met with Ayatollah Haaj Mehdi Mahdavipur in the holy city of Qom to pay tribute to his extensive services in India as the former representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Hazrat Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei Hussaini ‘’ MHLL’’

The meeting took place at a time when Muslim communities across South Asia continue to grapple with religious, social, and political challenges. Moulana Qummi, a seminary scholar at the prestigious Al-Mustafa International University, presented Mahdavi Pour with a formal Lauh-e-Sipas (Plaque of Appreciation) on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, in recognition of his 15 years of religious, academic, and humanitarian work.

“He was not merely a representative of the Supreme Leader,” said Moulana Qomi. “He was a moral force – building institutions, supporting students, and reaching out to the most vulnerable. His services have left an indelible mark on the Indian Shia community.”

Ayatollah Mahdavi Pour, who served as the Supreme Leader’s envoy from 2010 to 2025, is widely known for his commitment to promoting the teachings of the Qur’an and the Ahl al-Bayt (A.S), as well as his role in strengthening unity among Muslim sects and fostering dialogue with other religious communities. During his tenure, he spearheaded numerous initiatives in India, including the establishment and renovation of mosques, support for religious seminaries and universities, and translation and publication of Islamic literature.

The two clerics also exchanged views on contemporary issues confronting the Muslim world, including sectarianism, youth radicalisation, the impact of global geopolitics on local communities, and the role of clerical leadership in navigating socio-political crises. Maulana Waseem reza noted that Mahdavi Pour’s personal guidance and moral mentorship had a profound impact on his scholarly path.

“His advice came not just from scholarship, but from a deep understanding of society and the human soul,” Waseem Reza Kashmiri said.

The meeting concluded with prayers for unity among Muslims and for the peaceful progress of oppressed nations. The plaque presented by Founder and Editor in Chief of Wilayat Times was described as a token of gratitude from the Kashmiri people, many of whom continue to be influenced by Mahdavi Pur’s legacy of service.
