Sitaram Yechury and D Raja detained at Srinagar airport day after Ghulam Nabi Azad stopped from visiting Kashmir

New Delhi: Communist Party of India CPI(M)’s Sitaram Yechury and D.Raja was detained at the Srinagar airport a day after Congress Ghulam Nabi Azad was stopped from visiting Kashmir.

CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, who had earlier written to the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik, seeking permission to meet the party’s cadre in Srinagar, has been detained at Srinagar Airport.

Yechury had said he will try to go to the restive region, even as restrictions under Section 144 are still in place. Yechury had argued that it was his duty to go and see if his party workers and MLAs and safe and secure in their state.

Congress MP Ghulam Nabi Azad was on Thursday, stopped and later sent back to Delhi from Srinagar airport. Azad and J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir were stopped at Srinagar airport in light of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, Azad criticised National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on his interaction with the residents in Shopian district in Kashmir. “Paise dekar aap kisi ko bhi sath le sakte ho. (Anyone can be bought with money),” Azad had said.
