Teenage girl among three civilians killed in Kulgam,Investigation started

Srinagar: Amid shutdown and restrictions in parts of Srinagar, three civilians including a girl were Saturday killed while scores sustained injuries after forces opened fire in Redwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Officials said that a 16-year-old teenage girl and two other civilians were killed after forces opened fire on protesters who pelted stones on them in Hawoora area of Redwani.

The slain civilians identified as Shakir Ahmad Khanday (22) son of Mohd Hussain Khanday, Irshad Ahmad (20) son of Abdul Majeed and Andleeb Jan (16) daughter of Ali Mohammad along with other injured were rushed to the hospital after receiving injuries where they were declared brought dead by the doctors.

A medico also confirmed the killing of three civilians.Meanwhile, the district administration Srinagar had imposed restrictions in Srinagar areas while as a complete shutdown was observed across the Valley against the shifting of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) chief, Syeda Asiya Andrabi along with her associates to Delhi by NIA.

The shutdown call was given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.

In response of the JRL’s call, the district administration imposed restrictions in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta, Rainawari, Safakadal, Khanyar, MR Gunj, Maisuma and Kralkhud police station.

The curbs were imposed as ‘a precautionary measure’ to maintain law and order, officials said.Witnesses said that strict restrictions were imposed in downtown areas today.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed across the Valley to protest against the civilian killings, desecration of Jamia Masjid and graveyards.All the shops, business establishments, educational institutes and petrol pumps remained closed throughout the day while as the traffic remained thin on the roads.

Authorities had also suspended the train services across Kashmir. “We suspended train service in the Kashmir valley following a fresh directive from authorities,” officials said.Authorities had also suspended mobile internet services in Kashmir following the killing of three civilian killings.

It is worth to mention here that the district administration Srinagar has also decided to impose restrictions in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of seven Police Stations on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the state police said that an army patrol in District Kulgam while moving through Hawoora Mishipora area this afternoon was pelted by miscreants. “Consequently, Army tried to disperse the miscreants and in the process five individuals sustained injuries,” police spokesman said.

He said that the injured persons were evacuated to nearby hospital.“However, later three persons succumbed to the injuries including a girl while the other two individuals are stated to be stable,” he said, adding that police has started investigation into the matter.
